چکیده

The binary sorption of copper and nickel ions onto peat has been studied. Equilibrium isotherms have been determined for three di!erent copper : nickel molar concentration ratios. The experimental results have been analysed using an extended multicomponent Langmuir equation with a competition term but the correlation between the experimental and the predicted values was poor. An interaction factor was incorporated into the extended Langmuir equation and a signi"cant improvement in correlation was obtained. The "nal model involved deriving an expression to correlate the interaction factor with surface loading and these correlations produced coe$cients greater than 0.995 for all the isotherms. An F-test on the variable interaction factor model developed in this paper con"rmed that it produces a signi"cant improvement in correlating isotherm equilibria data. ( 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. Experimental and Theoretical Study of Phase Equilibria in Aqueous Mixtures of Lactic Acid with Benzyl Alcohol and p-Xylene at Various Temperatures

Liquid-liquid equilibria for the (water + lactic acid + benzyl alcohol or p-xylene) ternary systems were investigated at atmospheric pressure and in the temperature range from 298.15-318.15 K. The studied systems exhibit two types of liquid-liquid equilibrium (LLE) behavior. The system consisting of benzyl alcohol displays type-1 LLE behavior, while a type-2 behavior is exhibited by th...

Competitive biosorption of lead, cadmium, copper, and arsenic ions using algae

The present study aims to evaluate the competitive biosorption of lead, cadmium, copper, and arsenic ions by using native algae. A series of experiments were carried out in a batch reactor to obtain equilibrium data for adsorption of single, binary, ternary, and quaternary metal solutions. The biosorption of these metals is based on ion exchange mechanism accompanied by the release of light met...

Effectiveness of Cupressus sempervirens cones as biosorbent for the removal of basic dyes from aqueous solutions in batch and dynamic modes.

The feasibility of using cypress cone chips from Cupressus sempervirens as a low-cost biosorbent for the removal of two representative basic dyes, methylene blue (MB) and rhodamine B (RhB), from aqueous solutions was investigated in batch and continuous modes. Dyes biosorption was strongly dependent on the solution's pH. Sorption kinetics was determined and properly described by the pseudo-seco...

Comparison of biosorption of cadmium ions from aqueous solutions by the lichens Acarospora strigata, Lecanora muralis and Caloplaca aurantia

Introduction: Biosorption of heavy metals can be an effective process for the removal of heavy metal ions from aqueous solutions. Also, living lichens are known to accumulate metals across their surface. Materials and methods: In this study, the biosorption of cadmium ions Cd (II) by the lichens Acarospora strigata, Lecanora muralis and Caloplaca aurantia was investigated in aqueous solution i...

Bio-Remediation of Acid Mine Drainage in the Sarcheshmeh Porphyry Copper Mine by Fungi: Batch and Fixed Bed Process

Acid mine drainage (AMD) containing high concentrations of iron and sulphate, low pH and variableconcentrations of heavy metals leads to many environmental problems. The concentrations of Cu and Mnare high in the AMD of the Sarcheshmeh porphyry copper mine, Kerman province, south of Iran. In thisstudy, the bio-remediation of Cu and Mn ions from acid mine drainage was investigated using two nati...
